Text Box: WHAT IS HEALTH?   World Health Organization definition of Health: Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.   In this regard health is a positive state relating to the physical, mental and social aspects and that it can not be fully understood by simply reducing it to a disease.   There is a physical dimension  to the health of individuals and communities as well as psychological dimensions like attitudes, social practices and social conditions that effect our experience of health.   WHAT DETERMINES HEALTH? There is increasing evidence about what makes people healthy.  Factors like lifestyle, environment, human biology and access to health services all play an important part on our health.  In particular there is growing evidence that the contribution of medicine and health care is quite limited and that spending more on health care will not result in significant improvements in the health of Canada’s population.  Key Determinants The links below will help you learn more about the determinants of health and how Stonegate works to addresses them.
