Stonegate Farmers’ Market

The Stonegate Farmers' Market runs every Tuesday, June - October, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at 194 Park Lawn Road, in the parking lot of Christ Church St. James Anglican Church. The Market features: local conventional and organic produce, honey, bread, cheese, meats and more! The Market not only showcases fresh produce but hosts local entertainers, special events throughout the season as well.

Shoppers can also enjoy a meal at the market, as local community groups alternate turns hosting a weekly BBQ at the Farmers' Market. For a closer look at the Market, check out this short video clip. To keep posted of  Market events, vendor information and recipes, please "Like" us on Facebook.

Market PostcardVendors for our 2019 Market season include:

Bio Vision Farm Henricus sells 100% grass-fed beef, lamb, pork, chicken, and eggs, with an impressively wide range of cuts and meat products. The long list of meats available include whole chickens, steaks, beef burgers, as well as sausages, bacon, beef bacon, and salami. Henricus will be at Stonegate Farmers' Market  every other market (June 18th, July 2nd & 16th, July 30th, Aug.13th & 27th, Sept.10th & 24th).

Doug’s Honey “Distinct & Different” is how Doug describes his honey. He carefully locates his hives so that his bees are working among wildflowers & specially planted trees that are appealing, diverse & as free of chemical pollutants as possible. A beekeeper since 1981, Doug is passionate about the health-giving properties of honey & the array of products that honeybees provide.  Doug will be bringing products such as honey, honeycomb, propolis, pollen, candles, creams, and lip balm to the Stonegate Farmers’ Market.

FifthTown Artisan Cheese *new vendor* is a privately owned, environmentally and socially responsible enterprise producing fine hand made cheeses using fresh, locally produced goat and sheep milk. The Fifth Town brand, which aims to integrate traditional methods, contemporary tastes, and craftsmanship ethics with local terroir. Situated on 20 acres of agricultural land on the eastern ridge of Prince Edward County, the 4800 square foot Fifth Town dairy processing, retail and educational facility enhances the practice of artisan cheese making with advanced sustainable design.

Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery *new vendor* Brothers Paul, Matthew, and Daniel Speck started planting vineyards in Niagara’s Short Hills Bench as teens 30 years ago. Featuring the original buildings of the Speck family’s ancestors, today Henry of Pelham offers a wine portfolio that’s as rich as its history. Come taste award-winning wines in our historic tasting room, tour our underground barrel cellar, bring a picnic or enjoy casual dining at the Coach House Café. Tradition reinvented.

Lady Cone Hop Yard *new vendor* are now in their second season of farming and are very excited to join the Stonegate Farmers Market where they will be selling sustainably grown vegetables, as well as, free range chicken and duck eggs from heritage breed chickens that lay brown, blue, green and white eggs.  Alison and Chris both live and work on the farm that is located in rural Hamilton, just south of Cambridge.

Connie, from Mississippi Queen Foods, makes authentic Southern/Creole food, such as Blackened Chicken, Fried Catfish, Gumbo, and Jambalaya. She is especially known for Southern Pecan Pie, as ell as other goodies, such as: Sweet Potato Pie,  Apple Pie, Peach Cobbler and Blueberry Cobbler. Mississippi Queen Foods provides catering services and at her storefront, hosts several blues/supper events each month and books private parties.

Nature's Way Organics Ed Dirse and his family have been working on his own farm in Long Point , Ontario , very close to Lake Erie , over the last 10 years. He has been an active vendor at the Stonegate Farmer’s Market since its second year. Every week at Ed’s booth, you can find an extensive variety of 100% organic produce including different kinds of lettuce, beets, tomatoes (you must try the heirloom tomatoes once in season), potatoes, red and green onions, cucumbers, zucchini and of course the ever popular organic “Passion Popcorn.”

My Guiltless Desserts *new vendor* My Guiltless Desserts is a family owned business located in Mississauga, Ontario.  The mother and daughter team make baked goods, cereals and chocolate spread that are not only delicious but are also gluten, sugar and dairy free.  They use a special ingredient from Asia called Monk Fruit which has no calories, no carbohydrates and is 250 times sweeter than sucralose, making it ideal for those on Keto, Paleo and Diabetic diets or anyone who wants to eliminate sugar from their diet.   Come check us out to sample our delicious products! Once a month she will attend market.

Perry’s Corner Farm  *return vendor from 2017* is a 58 acre diversified farm near Drumbo now entering its six year of operation. Megan uses holistic farming practices to ensure the soil and her animals (heritage breeds of cows, sheep, pigs and chickens) are healthy and well treated. Eggs from free-range hens, grass-fed beef and lamb, and pasture raised pork and chicken will be available. Megan will be at the market every other week. She is happy to answer any questions about her animals, her farming practices or even just to talk about the amazing improvements to the land she has observed using managed rotational grazing. Megan will be at Market on the following Tuesdays: June 25th, July 9th & July 23rd, Aug. 6th & 20th, Sept. 3rd & 17th, Oct. 1st.

R & D Acres began as a small homestead in Priceville, with a large garden, a couple of horses, and a few chickens. Eventually, Rebecca and Darrell found themselves converting more areas to growing space and the property became a market garden and CSA farm. Their produce is grown using ecological farming methods, without the use of pesticides. A variety of delicious, healthy vegetables will be available at the market each week, from salad mix, lettuce, and microgreens, to radishes, garlic, tomatoes, and peppers. Cut flower bouquets will be available, as well as pasture-raised turkeys for Thanksgiving. 

SOOP Bags *new vendor* Rebecca Hudson quit the corporate world a year ago to start a business dedicated to stamping out single-use plastics. SOOP: Save Our Oceans from Plastic. Rebecca sells at markets and events throughout the city as well as through her online shop. SOOP Bags sells reusable produce bags, snack & sandwich bags, food wraps and totes. You will also find a host of other eco-friendly goods, such as bamboo toothbrushes, stainless steel straws, reusable bamboo thermos and natural body care products that have either biodegradable or no plastic packaging. Skip the plastic. Love the earth. 

Smokeville is a reseller of smoked fish produced by BOS Smoked Fish Inc. in Woodstock Ontario. Several of the products are custom smoked to their specifications. Smokeville's products include Smoked Ontario Rainbow Trout, Smoked Wild Caught Lake Whitefish from Lake Superior, and Smoked Wild Caught Mackerel from the Maritimes. Mackerel is the healthy fish of choice because it has 350% more Omega-3 than Salmon! All their fish is sold vacuum sealed and frozen and is ready to eat after a 7 minute defrost. Add to a salad or pasta sauce for a very special meal!

St. John’s Bakery is a social enterprise business owned and operated by St. John's The Compassionate Mission. They specialize in handmade organic sourdough breads made in the traditional French method, and sweets handmade from scratch. They use certified organic flours and all-natural ingredients and strive to ensure that most of ingredients come from local suppliers. Their breads are mostly sourdoughs, but they do make several non-sourdoughs like their Integral (100% whole wheat) and Spelt. And their sweets like delicious Banana Bread and their buttery Multigrain Raisin cookie.

Warner's Farm has been attending the Stonegate Farmers’ Market since its second season. Stan and Kennedy bring a variety of fruit grown at the farm in Beamsville, close to Niagara Falls , to the market each week.  Employee Kennedy has close ties to the fruit he brings to the market as he helps to plant, care for and harvest them when they are ready to come to our neighbourhood. 

  

Market Money

Stonegate Market Money is funded through donations.  Market Money coupons are given to community members who have difficulty affording the fresh fruits and vegetables they need.
