These are very challenging times for children and families. The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the life of every child and family, children might not understand the reasons for school closures, not being able to attend play group and why they cannot hug or spend time with a friend or grandparent.

They may also sense the anxiety that parents are feeling, and be concerned about their health and that of others. We understand the challenges that many families are facing balancing working from home, financial stressors and importance of self care during this time.

The Stonegate CHC continues to be committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of all children and families through this crisis. To stay connected with you we have created a Family Programs Facebook Page and YouTube Channel - Stonegate CHC Family Programs.

Living through a pandemic is stressful enough, being pregnant during this time can add an extra element of concern. The Stonegate CHC Family Programs Facebook page has a wonderful recourse for all expecting parents, Everything Baby Discussion Videos.  In these videos Barbara Targosinska, Pre and Post Natal Nurse, and Larissa Samborsky, Early Childhood Educator, along with other professions discuss and present on various pre and post natal topics.  Videos can be found at the Everything Baby Playlist, which is located under the Stonegate CHC Family Programs Facebook page video tab.

Make sure you LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to the Stonegate CHC Family Programs Facebook page and Stonegate CHC – Family Programs YouTube channel; so that you get notified when there are new posts and when new videos are posted.

We are exploring ways to stay in touch and reach out to families and children of all ages. If you have ideas of activities we can facilitate to support you and your family email us at we would love to hear from you.

Please be sure to check out our Early Years calendar to see what is happening.

posterFood Fit is a 12-week healthy lifestyle program for people who experience barriers around healthy eating and physical activity but who are motivated to make lasting changes to their health.  We are especially aware of the increasingly complex food environment during the pandemic. Barriers to healthy eating are bigger and more challenging as our lives have been disrupted in a magnitude of ways.

Food Fit’s approach is to meet people where they’re at. We recognize and strive to meet the needs of community members in ways that are relevant to their circumstances. This continues to be our focus during this time of social distancing and isolation. In response, we have taken Food Fit online and offer the program through Zoom. There is also a private Facebook page for alumni and participants. This private group allows for members to receive support from our facilitator through online connection, sharing recipes, food pictures, shopping and grocery tips, exercise videos, budgeting, and motivation tips.

If you are interested in joining Food Fit, add your name to the waitlist by calling 416-231-7070 ext. 231 and check the calendar for the next Food Fit program. If you are a Food Fit Alumni and want to join the Facebook group, contact the Food Fit Facilitator & Registered Dietitian Stephanie Cullen-Conroy at 416-231-7070.

Cooking Club

Healthy eating requires frequent cooking. Frequent cooking requires inspiration and excitement. To bring excitement back when it comes to cooking, Registered Dietitian Kasia Tupta offers online Cooking Club sessions twice a month that feature inspiring recipes with seasonal ingredients. In this program you will also have an opportunity to ask Kasia nutrition related questions, pick up tips on eating to maintain or improve your health and to share your wisdom and experience with other participants. This is a drop-in program. Registration is required, to register call 416-231-7070 ext. 231.

Besides offering telephone or OTN virtual appointments with our mental health counsellors, we are also offering mental health based groups.

Online Mindfulness based groups have a practice of mindful meditation included. Some groups will have an expressive component which may change the nature of the registration. In the comfort of your own home, through Zoom, you will be guided in a session of mindful meditation to focus in the present moment with yourself and for yourself. There will be moments to focus on your breath, body, and movement through walking meditation. In addition, meditations focused on building compassion with yourself and others may be included.
