APRIL STEVENS – As a retired teacher and CBC journalist, the principles of community, equity, and social justice have always been central to April’s life and work. She has a long history of volunteering, mostly with organizations that support children. April has been recognized with a Manitoba Human Rights Journalism Award, B’Nai Brith Canada Media Human Rights Award, Columbus Festival Bronze Plaque, Community Living Ontario Media Award and two team Gemini Awards. She speaks several languages including fluent English, French and German and intermediate Italian and Spanish. April believes that we are always stronger together and looks forward to serving the Stonegate community.
MICHELLE POSNER - Works at Doane Grant Thornton LLP and is the lead of their community pillar. Michelle sits in an operational role, on their Foundation Board supporting their core programs and Board efficiency and growth. Her experiences include strategic planning, program development, culture and engagement and community connection. She leads a program called Vibrant Communities where they go into the community and have conversations with community leaders around what is working well and what would make it even better generating a community dream about what's possible. Michelle has also been an active volunteer with Out of the Cold, helped to support fundraising efforts and has worked directly with its guests at their Monday night supper. Invested in the future of our next generation, Michelle would like to create healthy social circles together that embody what we value most.
KAREEN ATEJOH - Kareen is a certified consultant in a cloud-based Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform who loves technology. She has a Masters Degree in International Marketing and a Diploma in Digital Marketing. Kareen loves to give back to the community and has always supported new immigrants with writing their resumes, applying for jobs and preparing them for interviews. Kareen has volunteered in other non-profits both in Canada and her home country and she is excited to give back to the community that was there for her and her family when she needed it the most.
AMY NELSON - A community parent who is actively involved in community programming including fundraising for Park Lawn JMS, she is a past vice-president of Royal York Road Nursery School and a Scout Leader. A longtime Etobicoke resident, she has a wealth of experience navigating healthcare systems as a part-time caregiver for her parents. Amy has a degree in Business & Communications and nearly 20 years experience working in media, advertising sales, sponsorship, communication strategy and content marketing. She has worked with major national and international brands and government relations. She is a co-chair of her company's Women's Employee Resource Group which has worked on numerous healthcare related projects. Amy has also worked closely with the Canadian Medical Association on a national roadshow series with events in four cities. Amy has lived in Australia where she studied sports marketing, and Japan where she taught English as a second language.
SURBHI AGARWAL– Surbhi Agarwal brings over 20 years of experience in the banking industry, with expertise in corporate finance, client relationship management, and business development across leading Canadian institutions such as RBC, BDC, and EDC, as well as international experience with McKinsey & Company in Europe. Having lived and worked across continents for more than two decades, she brings a global perspective to her work and community service. Surbhi holds an MBA with a major in Finance and has worked extensively with entrepreneurs and organizations across industries, helping them grow through innovative financing solutions and strategic insights. She is equally passionate about giving back, having volunteered with a federal not-for-profit organization supporting refugee women entrepreneurs in Canada to start and establish their ventures. On a personal note, Surbhi is a proud mom of two who loves to travel, explore nature, read, and nurture her well-being through yoga and meditation. She is honoured to bring her experience, values, and passion for community development to her role on the Board of Directors at Stonegate Community Health Centre.
SHELLY KALRA - A seasoned family law lawyer with over 15 years of experience, Shelly brings a strong foundation in legal analysis, strategic thinking, and advocacy. She has led complex litigation and mediation matters, founded and grown one of Canada’s fastest-growing female-led law firms, and regularly works with vulnerable populations. Shelly has experience with board-level collaboration through her work with the Ontario Bar Association and South Asian Bar Association and strongly believes in advancing access to justice. A few of Shelly’s extensive skills include navigating governance issues, reviewing contracts and policies, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks, and offering insight into risk management and ethical decision-making.
LILLIAN MANEA ‐ Lived in the Stonegate area for the past eight years, but her family has been in the community over 20 years. She graduated from McMaster with a business degree and also has a Public Relations diploma from Humber College. A founding member of the Rainbow Songs Foundation, Lillian also chairs the Etobicoke Collegiate School Council, and has a long history of experience working in the non‐profit sector, including the Loran Scholars Foundation, the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC), and the Income Security Advocacy Centre.
LISA WISEMAN – Lisa has 20 years of community mental health experience. Knowledge about primary health, addictions, social determinants of health. Training and facilitating of various programs/topics (trauma informed care, motivational interviewing, etc). Professional experience developing curriculum and program standards (QI for programs/assessments), managing programs, and teams.
ELENA MIKHAYLOVA ‐ A finance leader with a degree in Management and Economics. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant and currently works at Danone as a Finance Director of Sales. Elena self‐identifies as a "first wave immigrant" who moved to Canada 15 years ago and brings with her a diversity of skills and life experience to enrich the Stonegate Board. She moved into the Stonegate Community CHC neighbourhood approximately 10 years ago and is looking forward to being involved with the community.
SAMIA AFZAL ‐ Samia is a local resident with a Doctorate in Immunology from the University of Toronto. She has advancing evidence-based practices at both Think Research Corporation and Niagara Region Public Health. Her health promotion work focused on sourcing reliable evidence to inform policy/programs in areas such as healthy child development, sexually transmitted infections, mental health, substance use, and healthy eating/physical activity. Samia also brings valuable non-profit sector experience, having collaborated to design and deliver leadership training for youth and young professionals. Beyond her professional pursuits, Samia enjoys embracing continuous learning and looks forward to leveraging her passion for public health and community well-being as a member of the e Board, contributing to the community’s future.
DELISA ABRAHAM – Delisa was raised in this community and is committed to nurturing, inspiring, encouraging and empowering our community now, and in the future. As a leadership coach, mentor and speaker she recognizes and understands why our community need leadership and community to thrive. Delisa earned a BA in Humanities (York University), a Post Grad Research Analyst (Humber College), Executive Leadership Certification - Women of Influence, and Entrepreneur Development Certification. She has also completed 14 years of Military Service and has experience as an Executive Administrator for various corporations.
JANE HUNG – Jane is a member of the Stonegate-Queensway community, a mother, and a first generation immigrant who understands the importance of personalized care and tailoring services to meet diverse family requirements. She has a financial background in corporate development and strategy and has worked on projects for various non-profits including supportive housing, long-term care, and grant foundations. Jane is committed to the community, having created groups to bring parents together to break isolation, and volunteered on the different boards from a music organization to a condo corporation. She looks forward to bringing her leadership experience and desire to contribute to the community to Stonegate CHC's board of directors.
