Staying active is one of the most important things we can do for our health. Stonegate CHC offers free activities to promote physical health and well being. We offer programs to encourage clients and neighbourhoods to get active.
The programs offered include:
Gentle Fitness For Seniors
Are you interested in increasing your fitness levels, gaining more energy and learning more about health, wellness and nutrition? Join this gentle fitness program for older adults (55 years of age and older). Offered at Stonegate CHC in partnership with ESS Support Services a certified fitness instructor leads participants through low impact cardio, resistance and flexibility training. Stonegate CHC regularly offers free yoga classes to the community.
We are excited to announce that the Yoga Outreach Project partnership allows us to offer on an ongoing basis yoga every Tuesday from 4:00 - 5:00 pm on an ongoing basis.
Come take advantage of this great opportunity! You will have access to equipment that includes treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, free weights, exercise mats, exercise balls and fitness videos. You must be 14 or older to attend and parent consent is needed for those under 16 years old. Open Gym is available on specific days and times and registration is required to use the equipment for half hour intervals.
If you are new to working out and would like additional support make an appointment to have staff help you learn to use the equipment safely. For more information and open gym times refer to the program calendar.
This simple, low impact exercise has many benefits for people of all ages and fitness levels. Normal walking utilizes muscles in the lower half of the body while pole walking adds the use of your upper body muscles, your arms, back, shoulders and neck. Pole walking turns your walk into a whole-body activity. Together we can enjoy the outdoors and benefits of Nordic Pole Walking. Bring your own poles if you like, or use the Urban Poles provided by the Centre. Please check our calendar for when this program is offered.
We partner with Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taoism to offer Tai Chi in the summer months in Bell Manor Park. For more information, please call 416-231-7070 ext. 239.
