Stonegate CHC Nearing Completion, Can you Help?
Stonegate Community Health Centre has served Etobicoke for almost 30 years. When faced with plans to turn our location into condos, we fought for and won a new home in the development. Your new Stonegate opens in September 2018. It’s twice as large, with more exam rooms, a bigger dental suite, a demonstration kitchen, a children’s activity center, and the best program space in Central Etobicoke.
We set a goal to raise $250,000 to outfit the centre, and we’re almost there with less than $100,000 to raise! Every donation, whatever size helps us toward our goal. Can You Help?!
Already hundreds of local residents benefit from Stonegate’s healthcare and community services programs. By creating healthier, more engaged people and a stronger community, we are also providing significant cost savings to the provincial healthcare system.
Your donation will help…
• Equip the centre for fitness and physical activity. Physical fitness is so important to both physical and mental health, and this will be a truly unique fitness facility for the community.
• Enable more people to see a healthcare provider!
• Make new dental care and physiotherapy services possible.
• Create a demonstration and teaching kitchen. Nutrition plays a huge role in everyone’s health, not just those needing to learn to mitigate and improve a chronic disease or health condition.
• Equip our new space specifically for children’s programming and activity.
SO, please provide a tax-deductible donation. And, as a “Thank You”…
All donors receive:
- Your name on our video display board in the new reception area; and, on Stonegate’s web site list of donors.
Donations over $300 also receive:
- Your name on the new Stonegate Donor Wall.
Donations over $1000 also receive:
- Acknowledgement in our Annual Report; acknowledgement in a Facebook post (and corporate donors can include their logo and brand identity / web link).
Donations over $3000 also receive:
- Acknowledgement from the stage at the Center’s opening ceremony, and in a full page SNAPd (Etobicoke) and Etobicoke Guardian article / ad.

Planning our Move
We are very excited to report that our building is almost complete and we are planning to move next week. In order to move, we will be closing our centre to clients from August 23rd to August 31st . On September 4th we will reopen in our brand new Centre.
You have probably been watching the progress every time you visited Stonegate CHC. The address of our new building is 10 Neighbourhood Lane and we will have the full second floor. It is the building on the same site as our existing Health Centre but in the opposite corner. Our new address will be 10 Neighbourhood Lane and we will have the full second floor. Neighbourhood Lane wraps around the new building and you can access it from Berry Road or from Bell Manor Drive.
Construction of the condominium buildings will continue for some years. What is now our parking lot will become the entrance for all of the cement trucks and will be blocked off as a construction site.
After serving this community for the past 26 years in our cramped and much flooded space, we can’t wait to show you our beautiful new space.
On Saturday September 22nd at 11:00 a.m. we will host our Annual General Meeting. This will be followed by lunch and tours of our new building. At 1:00 we will host a Community Meeting to engage the community in assisting us as we develop our strategic directions for the next few years.

Stonegate is Building… for a Healthy Community!

Stonegate CHC is thrilled to announce that the Ontario Trillium Foundation has awarded them with a capital grant to help complete our brand new Health Centre. On Friday, local Etobicoke-Lakeshore MPP Peter Milczyn stopped by the Stonegate Community Health Centre’s (CHC) new space at 10 Neighbourhood Lane, which is still under construction to offer congratulations on receiving a $149,600 Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The funds will be used to help create a large, fully accessible and well-equipped community activity space for recreational activities and events within the new Centre, slated to open this summer.
“I share a long and fulfilling working relationship with Stonegate CHC.” Said MPP Milczyn. “I know just how welcome this new, fully accessible community activity space will be with regard to their programming and to the fostering and promoting of more active, healthy lifestyles for all ages.”
The construction is taking place next to the site from which the CHC has been providing health and health promotion services to the Stonegate community for over 25 years. The Community Activity Space will host a range of physical activity programs and events for people of all ages and abilities. It will be equipped with a floor ideal for exercise and dance, mirrors, dance bars, a wide range of fitness equipment like mats, balls, weights, bands, skipping ropes and hula hoops – so that when your doctor recommends more activity for better health, you can “fill that prescription”!
“We are very excited about the new Community Activity Room that the OTF is funding” said Bev Leaver, the Centre’s Executive Director. “We’ve never had programming space like this at the health centre and it will significantly enrich our ability to offer group physical activities to keep our community members moving. We will engage the community and invite them to decide what type of physical activity programming they would value the most.”
An agency of the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is one of Canada’s largest granting foundations. With a budget of over $136 million, OTF awards grants to some 1,000 projects every year to build healthy and vibrant Ontario communities.
Despite this OTF grant and the core funding from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, the CHC estimates it still needs to raise about $100,000 to equip some areas of the new centre – such as the Children’s Activity Room; the large Program Room; the Demonstration Kitchen; and Community Board Room, as well as acquire some needed equipment for a few new examination rooms.
To raise the funds, the centre is launching a Capital Campaign “Building… For a Healthy Community” and welcomes donations. All donations are tax deductible and donors will be recognized and thanked in the opening events that are being planned.
